I use a lathered up Swaty after my 8000 to give a smoother edge I find the 8000 leaves a much harsher edge than after about twenty or so laps on the Swaty. I also use it to refresh my razors as the dull slightly in use. For this about five to ten laps brings the edge back for me.

I don't have a Swaty, but I do have an American and Austrian clone - same brick colour and same dimensions. I'm pretty sure they both perform comparably to a Swaty.
I've just used them a few times (just got them last week - $11 each from the same vendor) and my initial results are quite good. One was very lightly used the other was basically brand new in the box.
My preliminary results with the Swaty clones have been better than with my lithide (which I have lapped with my Norton 4/8). Neither of these hones needed any lapping (unlike the lithide, which was both uneven and had small raised bumps) and I'm not going to for fear of roughing up the surface.
While Swatys often go for a pretty penny, there are good clones out there that can be had for reasonable prices - which doesn't mean I'm not going to keep my eye out for a nice Swaty! (You can never have too many hones - I have 8 barber's hones - so far!).

Thanked: 79Not all Swaty's are the same.
I have a 3 line that is a good all around hone, and then (I think a 2 line) Austrian Swaty that is more of a finishing hone.
Keep your eyes peeled. I got the 3-line for under 20 bucks from Tilly (I think, it's been a few years) and the Austrian swaty cost me 7 bucks at a gun show.
Me: "How much for this sharpening hone here"
Seller:"That old sharpenin' rock? It's an antique, I'll have to have 7 dollars..."
heh heh heh heh
He got his 7 dollars, and probably thought he was getting the better end of the deal.....

I've just used my "Apart" hone to refresh a couple of blades and I think it comparable to a Swaty - it was made in Marburg Austria.
I paid $11 for it - near mint.
While I don't have a Swaty to compare it to, it seems to work well as a finishing/refreshing hone. In fact, it works better than my lithide and gave me a very nice edge on a Bartman - which has very hard steel and is prone to microchipping.
All this is to say that you might want to keep your eye out for other Austrian hones made in the same region during the same period as they might be comparable to a Swaty - but won't get bid up the same way.
