I just received notice from the seller yesterday that they shipped the stone off to Tony - I expect he should receive it early next week, then I'll put my BRAND NEW VINTAGE GREEN/YELLOW ESCHER (nobody can convince me that it's NOT) on eBay for like..... a gazillion dollars!!!!

Thanked: 0My fingers are crossed for ya, Lou. It will restore my lost faith in the eBay bargain. And allow me to continue believing that the "antique fine water stone" I have on the way will turn out to be a Thuringen. My eBay hone rules are playing just as my strop rules went: Buy two hoping they'll turn out to be something usable, then give up and buy something from a board member. Usually anything more than two eBay gambles will run as much as a proven product from a known seller (hello, Tony), and at some point it's wise to cut one's losses.
Anyone have pics of a true yellow/green Escher they can toss up? I'm curious to see how they look compared to the standard Escher.

Okay, Lou's stone arrived here yesterday and he gave me permission to post about it.
While NOT a yellow green escher it is one of the nicest translucent white Arkansas stones I have seen. The posted photo shows the stone sitting in the lid and it should have been in the shallower base. the stone is nearly an inch thick and a nice creamy/translucent white. Kind of like a big square pearl.
I offerd to clean and lap it for Lou just because it looks so pretty. Not the prize he hoped for but I think an very fair deal. I would have been well pleased had I won it myself.
I will post a photo of some of my vintage Eschers/Thuringen stones from my collection showing dark and light gray as well as green Eschers side by side so we can see the subtle differences. I'll add a dark modern Hunsrueck too so you can see how light the true Escher types are.

OK- it seems that I am the fortunate owner of an Ultra-Rare, cross-pollinated mixed-DNA Arkansas/Escher Translucent Green/Yellow Oil & Water Stone (Vintage) in a 'wod' box.
I've never seen or used an Arkansas stone - are they suitable for razors? Tony mentioned oil-staining, so I'm assuming that they are oil stones. In my limited experience, I don't recall anyone mentioning oil-stones in the same breath with razor honing. What type of oil is used?
(...I think I've got some 10/30 out in the garage....)
Any info would be appreciated.

Actually Lou, it arrived in what "used" to be a "wod" box <g>. The ends were removed in case one prefered to slide it from the end of the box instead of lifting if out of the top. This "dual purpose transforming" box must surely add to the value.
