Default Have you seen this new bidding layout?

I have tried to be very careful of not bidding against other members of SRP on Ebay, but apparently there is a new thing over there that makes that impossible to determine -

I bid on an auction recently, and noticed that the other bidder was identified as "Bidder-1"; I mistakenly thought that was the bidder's ID, until a little notice came up that said that Ebay, allegedly in an effort to protect bidders from getting shill offers during or after an auction, they are anonymizing bidders names until after the auction?

Come to find out, I was bidding against another member! Not cool - do you think they are doing this to keep groups like us from bidding against each other?

Yeah, i've seen this new layout, It seems its only for the more high priced auctions. I was bidding on a lot and the names disappeared around the 250$ mark.

it was introduced in an attempt to prevent dodgy second chance offers on bit $$$ items.

Not knowing who you are bidding against seems to be, in this case, an unfortunate side effect

I wouldn't really worry about bidding against other memebers. In the end its the highest bidder who gets the item anyway. realize that this is probably the only forum where you can mention open auctions. Most every forum has pretty strict rules about that.

    How so?
This is the only forum related to 'things' that I participate in, so I don't see the problem with talking about auctions.
Why is that considered bad in other forums?

I'd guess that it's because not every forum is filled with chilled out gentlemenly types... Trust me, I know of some that are filled with angsty, belligerant, squabbling prats who would react poorly to having their "secret bargain auction" shared around (not saying I've done that just to irritate one or two in the past ... )
