Thanked: 0Have you seen this new bidding layout?
I have tried to be very careful of not bidding against other members of SRP on Ebay, but apparently there is a new thing over there that makes that impossible to determine -
I bid on an auction recently, and noticed that the other bidder was identified as "Bidder-1"; I mistakenly thought that was the bidder's ID, until a little notice came up that said that Ebay, allegedly in an effort to protect bidders from getting shill offers during or after an auction, they are anonymizing bidders names until after the auction?
Come to find out, I was bidding against another member! Not cool - do you think they are doing this to keep groups like us from bidding against each other?

Thanked: 0Yeah, i've seen this new layout, It seems its only for the more high priced auctions. I was bidding on a lot and the names disappeared around the 250$ mark.

it was introduced in an attempt to prevent dodgy second chance offers on bit $$$ items.
Not knowing who you are bidding against seems to be, in this case, an unfortunate side effect

I wouldn't really worry about bidding against other memebers. In the end its the highest bidder who gets the item anyway. realize that this is probably the only forum where you can mention open auctions. Most every forum has pretty strict rules about that.

I'd guess that it's because not every forum is filled with chilled out gentlemenly types... Trust me, I know of some that are filled with angsty, belligerant, squabbling prats who would react poorly to having their "secret bargain auction" shared around (not saying I've done that just to irritate one or two in the past ... )

Bruno,
Let's say that I get lucky and find an auction for a 2X Duck razor. Should be Dubl Duck, but the seller is being creative. I get down to the last day, no one has bid because no one else has discovered it. But you come along and notice it and put up a post. Suddenly, the great steal I may have found becomes open game and the price shoots up to $100, when my $10 bid might have won. That is why some forums don't allow publicizing auctions.

( I did check the ebay names list before posting that by the way )

Checking the names doesn't matter. Since I don't snipe, I may be sitting by at the end of the auction ready to bid. But because it was "broadcast" to a large number of folks with the same specific interest, again the price may be driven up when it might have remained low.

I think the chip in the blade may do something toward keeping the price down.
