My intention was not to simply raise awareness for the auction. I posted because I was struck by how unique and interesting the auction was. I have never seen a Wonderedge, Goldedge, and Reaper sold in a same lot. I have seen past posts that share the same spirit as mine in this auction forum that are like "Wow, look at this cool 10/8 Sheffield blade" or "Look at this unique 7 day set in ivory." I did not see previous complaints about the poster linking to a live auction.
From a forum perspective, should we refrain from discussing interesting items that we see in live auctions out of concerns that it will raise the bidding?

The subforum name is 'Auction Talk'. About says it. This has come up many times in my time here. The general concensus is that we police ourselves as to concerns of bad form. Posting links to auctions is one way of discussing them. Just remember to put on a picture of the item in the thread so that as the auction ends, the link may not work, but the thread is relevent.
Otherwise, a bunch of words with no visuals are clogging the forum!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 480Most of the people who will cry "Bad Form" are people who hope to get a good deal, and they know that the more competition they have for a blade, the more money they are going to end up paying.
That said, when I see a blade that I know a fellow member is looking for, I send it in a private message in hopes that they will get it for a good price instead of my drawing attention to it. Likewise, when I see something that I am interested in, I will ask advice in a personal message as well. Of course, it helps that I have been here long enough to know who to ask for what advice.
There is no rule that says don't post live auctions, just the unwritten understanding that doing so will likely increase both attention to, and the final price of, a given item.

AFAIK it is the ebay forum and live auctions may be posted if they are considered of interest to the membership. A participating member may post a link to his own live auction occasionally. Making a habit of it would be considered trying to run a storefront. So no problem with posting this auction IMO. Completed listings are not a problem either.
As to this listing, the guy better get that one Wonderedge away from the others because I'm reasonably sure it has cell rot going on. The reaper is like so many I've seen, worn down too much, and the guy says as much. Seems to me to be on the verge of a frown towards the point end too. I'm not a player either but I watched it to see how high it goes.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

There is no rule about posting active auctions and folks use this forum to promote their own auctions all the time.
it's just that if you promote an active auction you will be raising the prices on the item. Good if you are the seller, bad if you are a prospective buyer. No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

Thanked: 1184I did it a couple of times until I thought about the consequences. It's kind of like throwing a pork chop into a pack of hungry dogs. I send PMs to those I know want something in particular and pull out of bidding if I see it posted in SRP. Just me, everyone else do as you wish. Doesn't hurt my feelings. Just the way it is !
The 7th piece is the leather pouch I am guessing :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

10pups I have been silently watching this auction to see what it goes for. I really like the ducks but they seem to be out of my budget most of the time. My ebay eye isn't the best yet. So spending large amounts on a lot of blades is not my norm.

TBS nailed it, all I meant was from the buyer's perspective, it's in your RAD's best interest to keep things on the DL. When I was still new to this forum, I posted links to auctions and thereby lost out on quite a few razors that were flying under the radar. Also keep in mind you have lots of lurkers, maybe from the other forums, here as well, not just SRP members who you hope gets a good deal if not yourself. Sorry to cause such a misunderstanding about posting auctions.
On a side note, does anyone know if there is an emoticon with a foot in mouth, I could use it about now.Why doesn't the taco truck drive around the neighborhood selling tacos & margaritas???
