if you ever seriously considering honing a razor this large and want to ensure proper geometry(id leave this one alone personally) you can make a sharpening jig to hold the hone and take it to the blade, not blade to hone, very easily done. the hone rides the cutting edge, the non abrasive end of the jig rides the spine.
but that's just silly talk anyhow. the serious issue at hand is are you wanting to keep it?Silverloaf

Thanked: 24I disagree, if you own something like this and want to hone it you simply have to find a Coticule stone fitting for the job. Although I guess finding one of apropiate size will probably set you back roughly the same amount as the razor

Until the photos with the standard size razor alongide I couldn't truly appreciate the scale of the thing. An amazing find for a razor lover. The workmanship is second to none.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

1400? Smoking deal, sez I. Thaeris, I am extremely happy you have been chosen to care for this. It is exquisite.
My credit card would have taken that thing on in a hurry.
Congratulations, Sir!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
