eBay confirm bid?
I was sniping an item as usual and placed a bid in the last five seconds and the bid window did its usual thinking for about two seconds and instead of displaying my bid status it asked me to confirm the bid. By the time I did that, the auction was over and the item sold for far less than the max bid I tried to place. Is this a new behavior? I've never come across this before and am a little po'd of course

I always get 'place bid' and then 'confirm bid.' I hit confirm with 4 seconds to go. Sometimes I bring home the bacon, sometimes I don't.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I always see the "Confirm Bid" dialog...

It's the same when you are stupid.

I don't have any sniping programs. So when I find something I want I make my mind up how much I am willing to spend. I place my max bid an walk away. I normally don't know if I win till I get the email on my phone. Just don't have the time to watch my bids that close. I have missed several nice items by $.50

Thanked: 129This has caught me out as well, you've always had to place the bid then confirm it to register it. I've forgotten this 2 stage process on a couple of occasions putting it down to over excitement as the seconds tick down. I now use a snipe app but even with this I sometimes get beaten to the item I want.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm wondering now, if it's different if you have already placed a bid previously, does it skip that "confirm" dialogue if you are already in the game? I'm trying to figure out why I was so taken by surprise. I'm not a huge buyer, but I'm not new to the process.

May be it was the delay and the missed bid that made you notice it this time?
You could try on a razor you know will sell for more than the current bid - place a bid and then place another one, see if you need to confirm both times.

If you click place bid with out putting an amount in it will bring you to the next screen. There you can place a bid or set a max bid without confirming. That is the screen to be on when sniping. The mobile app will make you confirm your bid and is alot slower.
