I feel your pain. Its only since I started using straights that I have used eBay and I know sniping is not exactly against the rules but to me there is something a bit underhanded about it. Lots of times I have been the only bidder and with 10 secs to go some scrotom (is that word allowed, apologies if its not) has put a bid in and I loose I am however learning the game now !

Earlier today, same thing I was the sole bidder on 3 razors from the same vendor. A bidr that stood for 3 days or so.

Then with 10 secs to go I get the "you have been outbid" (I must say on all my Max bid was higher than the 3 day winning bid). 0 time to respond so I lost this one Vintage Kropp Cut Throat Razor | eBay

A couple of minutes later and I lost the second one in the same way http://www.ebay.com/itm/271516773248

By now I knew what was going on, the 3rd one had 3mins left. My current winning bid was £0.99 and Max was £5. From the pattern I was fairly sure the sniper was going in below £10 so I raised my Max bid to £18 with 30 secs to go. Low and behold at 2secs left the bid shot up to £9 but I won it. It was this one and I think out of the three it was the ccream of the crop (I could be wrong and probably am but it sure felt good to stick it to the sniper lol) http://www.ebay.com/itm/271516774875

Like I said I find it a bit underhanded but it seems that sometimes you have to play dirty

Out of interest did I get the best of the bunch ?

Sniping is the only way to win most times, fellas. Nothing unfair or underhanded about it. There is a timeframe in which to bid and the last seconds are as fair as the first few! Bidding before the end is a sure-fire way to get outbid. Even then, padding the bid a bit gives some room to beat the last second bids, but don't count on it! Even those who snipe know their limit.
They also may know more about what something is worth than the other bidders as well.
Then there are the sniping programs!

Well I'm learning the game and sniping does appear to be the name of the game..... Sadly IMO.

3rd party sniping scripts however are a totally different matter and I personally don't think they should be allowed (if indeed they are allowed, I would think policing that would be almost impossible anyway)

Sooooooo what about the razor I did manage to snaffle. Would anyone have any info on it. I'm not interested in what its worth but I am interested in its date, origins etc. Thank you in advance for any info

Sellers canceling bids for better offers and people lowballing unknowing sellers is underhanded. IMHO. This is why I will often quickly place minimum bids on items, especially 'hot' items I don't even want, and sometimes it works..

I like a level playing field. If a seller lists an item as BIN undervalued, that is on them.

Yes! I have made a few offers on things which have no bids. Sometimes with fine results. I would never make an offer on something with bids, though. Things listed a BIN's are just that. Fair play to request lowering it a bit? I think fine!

Sounds like software nailing your butt Dennis. Do these newly BIN items have a previous bid on them ? If not it still sounds like software to me. If it isn't I am going to pay to have some programmed. Sounds like somebody is getting your good deals without the work. Somehow they figured out the easy pickin's or you do just have the bad luck.

Ahhhh now I read this part.... ""sadly the lister didnt message me that they were going to change it to bin for me""

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
