Look at this puppy
Yowzah...
Check out this one.
And to think I was considering bidding on that one.
The name is misspelled, which has interesting consequences if it would be spelled like that on the tang.
Someone here mentioned that the JR razors that shipped to the colonies all had the 'D' missing from Rodgers.
I also know that Sheffield steel made for sale to the colonies was made inferior to the steel for England, so as to give England an edge if they'd ever have to fight the colonies again (fat lot of good it did)
That would mean that this razor would be of inferior quality compared to other JR razors.
I can't really make out the markings, but I think the D is there, so probably only the description is wrong.
In any case, it looks like an awsome shaver.
But for that amount of money I'd contact Robert Williams.
It wouldn't have that sense of empirical history though.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

Thanked: 346Accd to the seller it's 12/8 size - same size as Josh's monster. Those things don't grow on trees. It's a lot of money, but if you're a collector???

Thanked: 2yep, that was me, all their blades including knives that were made for Colony sales were made without the 'd', it was to do with different taxes they had to pay to the government depending on wether it was made for sale in Europe or in the Colonies.
looking at an enlarged picture of this razor it is spelled with the 'd' so it was for European sales and looking at the type font on the box (if it matches the knife sales fonts), I'd hazard a guess it was made between 1880 and 1910.Last edited by Wayne D; 03-23-2007 at 12:45 AM.
