I had mine set up that way until some bogus charges started showing up...what a pain to straighten out!!
So I now use it a credit card that I almost never use. I used to have it linked to my primary credit card and once it was hacked, my card had to be replaced, etc. Now I only use it with one I don't care about....easier to watch for problems, it has fraud protection AND i don't care if it has to be replaced.
As an aside, the Paypal resolution process sucked. They were no (ZERO) help.Just call me Harold

Yeah, I'd rather not give Paypal access to my account details but it turned out that the money on my pp-account was a couple dollars short because of a small charge that Paypal added so I decided to use an E-card that my bank generates to substitute the missing $2.
I don't know if you have them in the states but an E-card is a virtual credit card with a spending limit and expiry date that you set yourself and they can't be linked back to your bank account.
I use them as much as possible when buying stuff over the net, especially if I don't completely trust the company.Last edited by Baxxer; 08-22-2014 at 06:52 PM.

There was some interest in it few years back, but nowadays pretty much only citi still does it. They used to license it to few other institutions but no longer do (discover ended that earlier in the year). I guess it must not have been widely used and didn't prevent much of the losses the banks were hoping to prevent. They seem to have switched primarily to analytics to evaluate the risk and proactively block suspicious transactions.

That's only because the US banking system is severely behind the times. In Europe instant transfers between banks is as trivial as one would expect it to be in our time, US is stuck in the 80s, so paypal is eating the lunch of the banks.
Too bad google doesn't really want a piece of that action, but amazon is in the business of selling and they may be able to grow their marketplace and give paypal some competition with their payment system. Of course, paypal has a decade head start and the muscle of its owner ebay, so without a price war which nobody wants they'll probably remain dominant for some time.

Never had a problem with PP, I buy something and it's instantly linked to my bank account, can use my debit card, no credit card fee's, PP even has a money back guarantee, I had something go AWOL in the post, PP refunded my money, wasn't the seller's fault (wasn't charged), wasn't my fault...then the package showed up a month later, couldn't believe it, notified PP and returned the money....all is good.
