If you're asking about that thing I posted, it's pretty easy to tell it's not what it's advertised to be if you handled as many old knives as I have. Even if you'd never seen one of those old Japanese rope knives, the jigging on the bone is totally different than it is on knives of the era that the seller of that junk claims it to be. That's the quickest test on it. Fit and finish is another.

This particular knife was pointed out to me by a friend of mine that owns more than three thousand old pocket knives and has been collecting for 40 years. He knows his stuff. He's my "go to" guy when I see a knife I'm leery of.

Like I said earlier, there are LOTS of phony knives on ebay and several unscrupulous sellers who specialize in creating fake/fantasy/counterfeit knives with obscure tang stamps and some with well known tang stamps like Case. Case knives are probably the most counterfeited knives on ebay. If you're gonna play the old knife game, you'd better know your knives.
