That is such a small amount to be under that we are getting into the area of how well calibrated or accurate is your measuring device. We are talking about 0.020" or 20 thousands of an inch. That is getting particularly nit picky. At know point in my razors collecting have I been that concerned out precision machining. We are talking about what would be the amount of steel taken off in a bevel reset, more or less.

That is why i use words like "about" and "approximately" when talking width. But i would have to agree that 1/64 of an inch is pretty negligible in my opinion.

I would expect a full inch at least at some point of the blades length.
98 cents is not a dollar.
If you had laid the blade on a ruler in a photo you would be OK as long as the written description doesn't claim one inch.
When I see a photo like that I always suspect that the true measurements might be off a bit due to camera lens distorting things at different distances and the value of the item is reduced accordingly.

If it's the slightest under 8/8 I would always say 'a tad under under 8/8' and give the exact measurement. In your case 63/64. But I have to agree with Nelson. The buyer didn't like it and just used the excuse of the width to return it.

Don't forget that not everyone has a caliper so it might be 63/64 for you but for the buyer who just uses a ruler at eyesight it might look 15/16.

Razorguy has a link on here of a measuring chart that would be even better then a ruler IMHO

If I were selling on ebay I would use it

That being said I use the simple +/- symbols when measuring and have never had an issue

Your razor would have been measured as 8/8- and described as "A 8/8 that has been honed"

So I went to the barbershop the other day. The guy asked me what I wanted I said #3 on the sides and an inch off the top. Afterwards I measured with my calipers and realized he had only taken 63/64ths of an inch off of the top. I went back and demanded my money back plus the tip. How dare he not measure each hair to make sure it was exactly one inch each.

This whole chopper craze is just freakin' ridiculous! I wont buy one now, because of the silly prices that have sky-rocketed on these. I'm going to make my own out of some great steel and circumvent these astronomical prices! Btw, use a 1/32" ruler in the pic and tell them to be the judge and no returns. That'll learn them!

I try to use terms such as "about" when describing width, and if in doubt happily provide a picture.

Yep. I've dealt with this problem once on eBay myself. Never round a blade width to so much as the nearest 1/64 on eBay.

These days I'll state the measurement as a decimal percentage of 1.00 (example, 0.873 inch) in the narrative or photograph the width at the end of the blade with a digital micrometer in exact fractions. If it's 57/64's, so be it.
!! Enjoy the exquisite taste sharpening sharpening taste exquisite smooth. Please taste the taste enough to ride cutlery.
