Good point. And some sellers can spot eager folk as well. I expressed interest in a particular razor, exchanged a few emails, the razor went up as a BIN, and when he listed the price, it was slightly higher than we had agreed - had to smile, seller knew I wanted that razor, and only I could click on the button...but it was a win-win and I admit, I had a laugh.

I've had some good sellers list BIN for me after asking them a few questions, too. Especially if they've had a razor for a while. I've also seen a few razors go no sale for several auctions and then magically when I want them, two people bid halfway through the auction before I even bid. Happens with tools, too. Always worth the trouble to ask the seller about the listing first, and see if they'll list something BIN so you don't have to wait another several days to get it.

My experience on ebay has been, in general, pretty good. I've only ever had one buyer who really took advantage of me on there, and that was because his wife didn't like what he bought and he said "she wasn't happy with it". He pored over it until he could find something he claimed wasn't disclosed (though it was pictured) and said he'd contest it if I didn't take it back. What choice do you have in a situation like that? All I could've done is send paypal the first email saying that his wife wasn't happy with what he bought, but they'd have probably ruled in his favor anyway, because it's not their money.

I've had other stuff from less than knowledgeable sellers that arrived with undisclosed problems, but a look at what they had for sale and have sold usually tells me whether or not they should've actually known it, and I usually cut those people a break if it's unintentional.

Update.... the seller reluctantly some what kinda of apologized, at any rate it was good enough for me, I want that razor LOL
It's hard to reward someone for treating you like crap, sometimes you have to suck it up and make that sacrifice, it's wrong in so many ways though....

Well I hope after the frustration of dealing with this seller that you don't get sniped! What would be the awesome end to this story is that you get it crazy cheap.

Some EBay sellers can be almost as bad as antique dealers. Which are some of the most hostile people I have ever met.

They know enough to be dangerously stupid. I have heard that Dubl ducks should be $300 for broken scales or that a Sheffield razor is a rare item...... They based their prices on comparisons from other sales with or without true knowledge of their product. Often when I get the hostile seller it's because they fear the return/poor reviews as others have stated.

The other side is the "$20 for that hunk of metal and plastic". (I love those guys)

When you know something about the product it ALWAYS goes up in price. Not saying to not ask the right questions but they can get you in a heap and out priced quick. The hard part about dealing with eBay sellers is that the door walk isn't an option, the price always gets reasonable when you start for the door.
    Best of luck.

My father in law is one of these people. He has dealt in furniture for years and knows what he talking about on that end. But he had a 5/8 Keen Kutter that had some rust on the blade and asked me what I thought it was worth, I told him probably $20 max and he didn't like that at all. He said it has the original box, that's what people really want. I left it at that and he has $60 on it and it's been sitting there for about 6 months. (I was tempted to tell him I have a whole pile of boxes that I normally forget to even include with the razor when I sell one) Of course this is a local flea market and not the bay.

Some people just think that because they know a lot about one thing that they know about everything. And some search the sold listings a find a fully restored razor and put the same piece in their rusted out piece of crap too.

I've found that a lot of people selling razors on ebay don't know the first thing about them so they're scared of giving a wrong answer so they just shut the conversation down.

I agree also, I have won a and received a PM " I think the handle is made of ivory. eBay bans the sale of the stuff so I didn't put it in the listing, best of luck!☺"

(Heart pumping, excitement building..........3 days later) It turned out to be celluloid. At least it was in good condition.
