They know enough to be dangerously stupid. I have heard that Dubl ducks should be $300 for broken scales or that a Sheffield razor is a rare item...... They based their prices on comparisons from other sales with or without true knowledge of their product.
My father in law is one of these people. He has dealt in furniture for years and knows what he talking about on that end. But he had a 5/8 Keen Kutter that had some rust on the blade and asked me what I thought it was worth, I told him probably $20 max and he didn't like that at all. He said it has the original box, that's what people really want. I left it at that and he has $60 on it and it's been sitting there for about 6 months. (I was tempted to tell him I have a whole pile of boxes that I normally forget to even include with the razor when I sell one) Of course this is a local flea market and not the bay.

Some people just think that because they know a lot about one thing that they know about everything. And some search the sold listings a find a fully restored razor and put the same piece in their rusted out piece of crap too.
