The thing that makes me wonder is that the writing is centered on the beveled part of the spine (taking into account the full length of the ground section) if it had had the tip broken off i would have thought that the writing would be slightly closer to the tip. I am NO expert though.

Yes quite a few of us are fans of smiling blades, they are fantastic for necks as the curve matches the shape of neck hollows better, they aren't so good for getting dead straight lines at sideburns with however.
If you search smiling edge/blade/razor there is a small army of threads about them.

Well, the state of the blade doesn't matter that much. I've plenty of nice old blades that would fit perfectly those scales (and so does the guy that bought it )

However, a solid pair of unbroken (said in the description) MOP scales is in my opinion much more precious and rare than any unusual blade.

But it's just my opinion (and I probably shouldn't say it too loud :P )

Yeah, that's true, though it's not centered even with that into account. Still a lot more centered than if one imagines a full round point. Plus there's the steel removal part too. It's one thing to do it before heat treating and completely different on a hardened steel. The former suggest a lot more intention.
One thing for sure is that it's not something that caught on and became mainstream otherwise we'd have seen more. Whether it was an experiment, or salvaging a mistake/waste is probably impossible to say.
Or may be somebody will find a big pile of them like those heljestrands with chipped heels and we'll be scratching our heads even more.

I am happy to say that I have almost that identical razor. Mine has the imprint of the owner of the razor, including his address in a hotel in Boston.

Heh, when you posted your doubts I got a bit scarred that I had gone and done it again and started another 'Design feature or damage'-thread.

Either way I won't be scouring the web in search of the answer but I'd very much like to see Utopian's pics.

I thought it all-original as Rodgers did lots of unusual points. Also interesting is the #33 on the scales. I felt it could have been part of a salesman's sample display and the number let to the description. Or it was #33 in a 100 day set?
Wanted it, but too much dough for me!
