Thanked: 480To me, "driving up the market" is when the supply is controlled so as to force up demand. To a certain extent, we all do that. Hell, in a way I am doing it right now. I see it all the time here on SRP. Somebody posts a razor in the forum, talks it up "AMAZING SHAVES from this!" blah blah. And within 24 hours that razor is up on the bay.
Or, when somebody posts a razor auction, and says "what about THIS one? is it a good deal?" Next thing you know, it has hundreds of people looing at it, and Ebay moves it into the "featured auction" and it gets even more advertising. Everybody sees it, so more people might bid on it.
And if you doubt the audience here on SRP can make that much of a difference, just look at this post. over 700 views already.
And on ebay it has gotten almost 3x as many views as the big Wade and Butcher I have up, even though W&B are one of the most highly searched razors on the bay.
Lots of ways to make a sale, lots of ways to promote, I just prefer the honest and old fashioned ways best. I gots it, here it is, go look at it. If you wants it GIVE ME YOUR MONEY!

TBH, Steve, We check in because we love you. Notsomuch your razzers! Chill out and enjoy! It's OK!
Nothing to be done with the Ebay thing. It always sorts it'self out."Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 3215This is an excellent marketing strategy to sell an item for the highest price, if the item is a quality Item and marketed for a long enough period of time to allow as many bidders as possible.
I have used this strategy to sell real estate many times, each time the property has sold for record price, to the most qualified buyer in the shortest amount of time.
It is a simple marketing principal, Exposure creates demand, Demand creates value. The more people that see it, the more people will bid, the more bids, the higher the sales price.

Thanked: 458And that's why it's bad for us to all sit around and talk about and look at razors, because it has probably resulted in every one of us buying many times more than we would otherwise!
(I know it has me...I'd be a two razor guy without the internet. I didn't know there were shaving sites when I started SR shaving, and tended to be cheap and buy razors that were about $20 with some pitting in nonessential areas. Oh the money I've spent since reading show and tell from a bunch of razor exhibitionists!!).
