Thanked: 0Famous Barber Manual
In the National Geographic special "Closer Shave", that you can find here,
they talk about a famous barber textbook from 1920: "Barbers Manual" from A.B. Moler.
I've discovered that is avaible now on ebay here in really good condition, and here, with a nice Fridour razor and strop.
It seems they don't send overseas, so I cannot buy it.
It would be nice if someone could buy this book, do a scan of the interesting chapter, and put the file in the help area in Straight Razor Place...
Any volunteer?
Ciao

Thanked: 1I have a barber's manual from 1950 and aside from it actually having photographs in it, the techniques and instructions don't appear to have changed. Very interesting.
If you can't get the 1920 book, we have copies of the 1960's book in the SRP library

Thanked: 369I have a Moler barber manual that I've quoted many times in various threads. It is copyrighted 1911 and revised through 1926.
What info and what pages are you interested in? I'd be happy to post them for you.

Thanked: 369Already in the help files is a copy from the "Standard" textbook of barbering from the 60's teaching stropping and honing. The info and technique is nearly identical to the 1920's Moler text. This is it: http://straightrazorpalace.com/compo...id,3/Itemid,3/
I could add the chapter on shave technique.

It was just my curiosity: maybe the Moler's text have some additional information
The more we can read, the more we can learn...

Thanked: 369The Standardized Textbook is a better source. I suspect that the Associated Barbers gathered much information from the Moler text for their standardized textbook (in fact I'd bet most of them learned their trade from Moler). Generally, what the Asscociated Barbers did was collect all of what they considered the "best" barbering information/ methods available (including Moler), and "standardized" it all into one source.
The Moler book is great as an historical/ collectors item, but it doesn't add much of anything different info-wise.

Thanked: 0Done and Done, got the lot for 50$, Maybe a little on the high side but hey what the hell. That barbering text book looks pretty sweet. If you guys want i can scan the part on shave technique and post it even tough theire might not be much information that we dont already have. The razor looks to be pretty nice aswell.
