Bidding at work has it's downside and network lag lost me my Puma...

What makes this Puma a "white whale"?

Only that I do not have one as yet, and I read that Voos prior to Dovo made very good razors.
My list, when I started into this hobby was to have a blade from every Country of worth in my collection. Then on here I learned certain specific brands from said Countries are the better makes so my list was refined somewhat. Along the way my shave style has improved and I find I prefer hollow ground shavers more.
So my 'Whales' still include Puma, Livi, Filly, Palmera, all in the hollower blade profiles and ideally spike, irish, barber or spanish point. Add to that the clearly accepted point that my taste exceeds my paychecks I am left fishing in crowded waters with a dead worm on a barbless hook.
Not complaining at all, just chatting and sharing the fun.
In your experience is the one listed not a good one? To help me refine my searches next time.

I like your style. You know what you want and you are working towards it. That's cool. My preference is for 1 inch or wider blades, mostly from Sheffield steel so I was just curious. I am more of a collector than a shaver. So I am not versed enough to comment on the quality of that razor (or any razor for that matter....lol). But keep up the good work. Stay focused man.

Your blades fall into the guillotine category for me, I've been looking at your pics. Awesome items Ron Popeil would try to put a motor on. I only have one 8.8 razor. A gorgeous IXL hollow ground I dropped while restoring and cracked the blade at the heel. Trimmed it down, but not the same any more. I too enjoy Sheffield steel and am building a 7 day set currently of non xll's. All 5 to 6.8s. in Ebony. Got a thread going on them in the workshop.
Currently, I'm flush for British, Irish, French, American, Swedish, and Japanese steel, but like I said, the elusive above will fill the cabinet proper. Then it's all about trades and upgrades, hehe.

Puma did have some amazing razors. I have had a few, currently down to one. That one I think I will keep as it is half hollow and shaves like a champion. I too have internet issues at work and have lost a few there. There are so many more it does not make me blink an eye anymore. I do watch a lot though, many go above my budget before I get a chance to bid. At this point I have already overpaid for enough razors, if the price is not right someone else can have it. There is no shortage of something to shave with here.

The bay will always break your heart. Its an emotional gut punch every time.

Meh, not to worry, Mike. Lots of Pumas coming out of the woodwork, esp in Japan. So many are for sale now, the price will keep going down. Besides, I had one and sold it. Worth too much. Nothing magical about them. Just a good razor. You will require a 6/8 anyway. JMO

I have a super shorty puma 89 that was hugely chipped near the center. Used a dremel cutter and sander to get it back to shave worthy. It's about as long as a cartridge razor, which is actually quite nice for the hard to reach spots. The steel is amazing, cuts hair like no other razor I have off of the 1k. I'll post some pics later on when I'm not a few drinks in lol. I just sold a puma 39 not long ago on the bay. It was from japan and had the typical toe hone wear. Someone got a real nice deal...
