It still goes up in increments it is just that the snipe puts the bid on with the minimum amount of time to respond.
Don't quite agree with this Ed. Sniping is a way of putting your maximum bid in late - it is useful rather than bidding early - in that it doesn't allow people to bid up and up until they reach your maximum. If two people have snipes in, the one with the highest bid will still win - even if their snipe is in front of yours. As an example - If my maximum snipe bid is $10 and yours is $9 - and the current maximum is $5 - my bid will go in at $10 and win against your $9. If you had not bid, mine would still go in at $10 but I would pay only $6.

True, assuming ebay had time to process both bids.

I recently won 3 razors on Eblay..
The way I won the blades was by thinking what was I willing to pay for them ,which was £150, it was actually the maximum could afford at the time.
    5 seconds left I bid my £150.
I won them for some thing like $58 .. Cant loose that way

That is what a sniping program does for you. You don't have to wait out the timer though, you can go about your business knowing your best bid will be dropped in the final seconds.

I use Gixen, it is free and it is reliable. If you care to pay them 6 bucks they fire last minute bids from 2 computers

I gave up long ago after losing too many auctions, and joined the dark side of snipe users.
