Thanked: 0Opinions please: What's a chipped Goldedge worth?
Gentlemen, I turn to your for wisdom:
I picked up a DD Goldedge round point, describes as having no nicks or chips, on the 'bay, BIN for 39.99. Turns out the blade indeed has a few nicks and one chip of about 1/16 of an inch. The seller is offering me the choice of sending it back or taking a partial refund that we both consider fair. So what's fair?
I'll try and get some pics up if I can grab a camera.
Thanks.

Thanked: 0My suggestion is to send it back and give a negative response. He knew or should have known about the chip.

I'd send it back at the seller's expense (if possible), and then leave a neutral for making it right.

Thanked: 0Yeah, it looks like sending it back will be the only option other than swallow it. The seller prefers full refund/return to refunding me what I would consider fair. Bit of a pisser since I got hit by customs on the delivery, and I highly doubt Canada Post offers refunds in such cases.
Here are a couple of pics just the same. I'd already started cleaning 'er up...

For $40, I'd almost be tempted to keep it, hone out the chip and make it a shaver. $40 is pretty cheap for a Goldedge, and if you going to get hit on shipping it back to the seller, It may be more trouble / expense than it's worth to send back.
A great edge could be had in a couple hours or less on that blade...just another option for you..

Thanked: 0Dang...
That's pretty bad. If he said no nicks or chips, and if you don't honestly believe there was any way that happened during shipping, I'd leave negative feedback. I have quite a few ebay DD goldedges, and some I have been a little displeased with, but that would really tic me off.
I have to say, I think I saw that razor and thought it was too good to be true.
Keep it and turn it into a 4/8 maybe...but the hassel would bother me far more than the price.

Always get them to mark 'GIFT' on the postage, that way you dont get hit with the customs charge :P

Yeah, and if customs decides to investigate during a routine check, the seller gets hit with tax fraud.
This is the reason that people like Tony Miller always write down the real value and mark the package as goods.
