The Friodur, and the Filarmonica are 'cult status' razors and bring a higher price. Sure they are good, but there are a lot of other vintage Solingen razors that don't have the famous names and shave every bit as good at a much more reasonable price. Just go for fine condition in some of the lesser known names and you'll get a great shaver.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Thanked: 4828the 1/2 does indicate that it is a round point. Coincidently it is also a 1/2 hollow. Henckels made many many razors and for a very long time. They made very good razors. As a result they tend to sell for a bit less than other brands of equal quality that made quite a few less razors and for shorter periods.

Agreed on the less known razors....the only thing your face cares about is that tiny little last bit of edge right? The rest is just scenery for us razor hounds. I just feel like I have to have at least one of each!

Thanked: 480I sold my 17 1/2 just a few months ago. Mint, with box and papers, and a fresh hone.
I honestly did not expect it to sell for my asking price at 180 I was going to accept less on a "Make Offer" that never came.
Yes, you can certainly find similar for less. But if you DO go for it, the odds are good that it will be a fine blade. Quality has been there in every Henk I have ever owned.
Is it that you want stainless? or the fact that its a 7/8? I myself prefer my thinner grinds which is why I didn't mind selling that one. (besides I have 2 more!) =P

I think I just wanted to try a Henckels. I do not have a stainless so I am interested in the differences. I normally prefer the wider blades with 6/8 or 7/8 being my go to razors.

Thanked: 480You can find plenty of good Hencks with blades in that size range for less money. Unless you need to have "mint" =)
