Easy-peasy: my favorite razor is my Robert Williams custom

Why? - because it's edge is velvet (broke my rating system), balance is great, and I participated in the design. It is also very nice to know that Robert hand-hammered it (vs. ground it from a blank). It was made for me - I can't say this of any other razor

    Cheers

    Default Favorite Razor?

Is that the one you got from me Ilija?
I have another 6/8" Taylor’s 1000 with broken scales, should I fix it up and keep it for my self?

Yea, isn't it funny we keep thinking we have the ultimate razor, none can possibly be better and then a better one comes along. Ya think there really is a point where it can't get better?

Yep! At present, it's my "nothing special" Dovo 5/8 -- it's the sharpest and easiest to handle.

Although, the edge starting to get a little tired from daily use. Hopefully, my Lynn-honed Wapi gets here soon!

So far my 7/8 Silversteel TI has beat the crap out of anything else. The only thing that comes close is a 6/8 Silversteel worldmaster or the Macero that I traded for a strop with Bobbo (I got the strop he got the razor).

My favourite straight is my 6/8 German Hoppe round point, because I lovingly brought the edge from "factory sharp" to where it's "shave ready" and I just like the way it feels. Of course, I have only tried one other straight razor, so I don't have much to compare with...

Oh, and I like it because it's a round point. My other straight is a spike point and that point just makes me nervous, because I just *know* it will catch somewhere and cut me.

    Default partial to wedges

I'm partial to wedges and I must say that Frederick Reynolds are almost the only razors that can be had in camo at a reasonable price.

I find them to hone easily and shave silently.

I also picked up a very heavy 5/8 Henckels the other day and I like it very much.
I have a set of ivory scales that have been waiting for a worthy blade and I may have found it.

Aren't wedges harder to hone since you have to take off so much more metal than a hollow ground razor?

I have (3) 11/16" Spanish tip W.H. Morley & Sons. razors that I got cheap on eBay and in a lot. I've cleaned/restored them. They hone well, hold the edge for a good amount of time and give me that 'wiping whiskers off my face' vs. cutting them feeling that I love in a really sharp blade. Also, the weight and balance on these full hollow ground razors works nice for me. They are plain Jane with black plastic sales, but work great for me. - J
