I Name this - The Forgotten RAD
Placed a bid on this a week ago on eBay France, the only bid, completely forgot about it, and this is on the way now from France...metal scales, looks like a nice big razor with an interesting grind, and hey, comes in it's own wooden box with some type of pouch attached to it.
Gotta love it when the shipping price is higher than what you paid for the razor.....

Thanked: 4207Nice score from viva la France!
Wonder if that pouchy parts was supposed to serve as a strop way back when?
Very cool looking kit regardless.
You do forget the coolest winning bids Andrew! Metal scales to boot, sweet.

I bought a similar looking paddle strop like yours at a flea bag. When I got it home and started fooling with it the lid slid off and out popped a Germania Oxford.
What a nice surprise.
Great score, Andrew. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Thanked: 581Just gently tap away Phrank, I wouldn't say that if they were ivory or bone but aluminium is pretty hardy. Few gentle taps and same on the other side. Keep trying till the pin is bent...

Thanked: 4207Michaels sells a 4 oz ball pean hammer I n their jewelry making section that is a perfect size and weight to learn to pean pins with Phrank.
Using the ball end, you get used to tapping lightly round the pin and it will slowly come together, as will your confidence and touch.
The bigger hammer as your anvil is a good idea too.

Well, figure I should close this thread.
Was a great shave with this blade, honed up beautifully and provided an exceptionally smooth shave, the steel was very nice.
One thing that sprang to mind, was that this steel was not reminiscent of Sheffield steel at all. I was expecting this to feel much like a Sheffield Rattler, and it didn't at all - not even close. Can't say much more about it that it was definitely different, and was exceedingly good. I want to say Swedish steel, but that doesn't quite fit either, it's too soft for that.
Either way, after the Nani 12k, it spent some time on the Escher, and straight to the strop afterwards...staying away from the pastes and sprays lately.
And by the way...I love XPEC Original Shaving Soap, take awhile to grow on you I find, but wow am I liking this stuff more and more with each shave.
