The trashed scales would no doubt detract from the razor's value elsewhere, but on SRP a custom set of scales has value. I'm hoping to take my time and make something really nice... I have some blanks in a nice light wood with dark stripes through the grain. The light wood will echo the light-colored scales it came with, and they'll look snazzy with the dark brown case...

Did Puma make wood and plastic coffins? I picked up an old Helji in the UK that came in a really nice condition Puma coffin. I haven't really looked closely at the coffin, but I always thought it was plastic made to look like wood. I must take a closer look tonight.

Josh, sounds like you got a pretty good deal - I was watching Pumas on ebay going for some way serious prices a few weeks back. Good catch

    James,

I wondered at first whether this coffin was plastic. It has an ambigious sound to it when you rap it... But after scrubbing it I can tell that it has real grain to it. Try looking at the edges where the two halves fit together. I don't think they'd bother making those parts look so real...

Yeah, that's what made me think mine was plastic - the sound it made. Thanks, I'll take a look. (I've only had this in my drawer for a year - d'oh!)

I have three Puma's 2 have solid wood cases but on the third the "tenon" is plastic the rest of it is wood... when closed they differ only in hte patterns of the woodgrain.
    Be just and fear not.

Sounds like one I've got...I finally came to the conclusion that it was petrified plastic....pretty rare stuff, that.

...should bring a pretty penny on the 'Bay!

    ....I may be wrong, though.

Petrified plastic - that *would* bring a good price on ebay. You'd need the right kind of buyer though - someone who appreciates the enormous amount of time the plastic had been laying around to become petrified, and the skill and craftsmanship required to mould it into shape. Yep, with the right kind of buyer you'd make a fortune with petrified plastic on ebay
