    Here's another one. It's not just an Etsy thing, I guess.

    Interestingly enough, this '50s razor was made by a company that was founded in 1996.

    I saw that listing too. Shook my head and scrolled on past it.

    Aloha!

    This sort of thing happens in every "collectable" industry that is deemed "hot" by someone. And then another person that either does not know the market, or perhaps hopes to capitalize on a sucker, offers something mundane for sale at a stratospheric price.

    I am also into collecting vintage high fidelity and stereo components, especially vinyl engines (record players). I remember about 5 or so years ago some buffoon on eBay had a W.T. Grant's tabletop console stereo for sale. One of those cheap all-in-one units with an 8 track, a radio and a built in record player with a dirt cheap ceramic cartridge. Circa 1975 ish. A piece of plastic junk that would have a sign on it for $2.00 at any flea market, and at the end of the day would be given away for free just to get rid of it. To make matters worse, the stereo did not power on, and one of the speakers was missing. I remember the ad;

    "For sale a vintage WT GRANT stereo record player. Does not power on, turntable does not turn, needle and one speaker is missing. Highly collectable. $950.00."

    Me and my fellow collectors on the stereo forums got a big gaffaw out of that one. Highly collectable. Yes, on the top of Mt. Everest.
    "I get some lather and lather-up, then I get my razor and shave! Zip Zop, see that? My face Is ripped to shreads!"

    How dumb do they think people are when you can buy Gold Dollar razors from China for $5 Dollars, crazy.

    Yeah, it's a Gold DOLLAR, not a Gold C note.

    Does that one seller still have the $3000 BIN on, what was it, either a Wostenholm or an Ern, I forget which?

    Wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve seen garbage with higher (much!) starting bids than what I just paid a member here for a really nice no frills razor. Listings starting at $40 and more for blades with huge chunks missing. Crazy.
