Thank you sir! The Joseph Elliot is kind of an oldie that'll go into retirement, and I'm thinking of using the Genco as my every day.

Gencos are friggin AWSOME shavers. The Joseph Elliot looks like it has a little wear and is a little small for my taste, but it should be a very good shaver too if it is honed properly.

I haven't even received the Sheffield yet, but it was more of compulsive buy...I dunno if I should keep it...?

I keep thinking there's something wrong with the blade because it looks crooked, but the seller assured me that's what they all look like...any thoughts?

Prices will likely stabilize as Sweeny todd gets old, but good razors seem to be getting rarer. right now demand far out stripps supply, and unless you know how to restore razors, expect the price on shave ready or even very clean razors to continue to rise.

Although there is a good side to this, as demand rises, and people continue to use straight razors, we may see manufacturers of razors increase... Maybe We'll see new Filarmonicas again in the future..? If not we may see quality knife makers introduce a limited supply of good razors. I know I'm fond of cold steel knives, I'd seriously consider trying a cold steel razor.

Could just be perspective mate... a lot of poorly taken photos make the razor look like its got a twist in the blade... when it doesnt.

I have two of those with oblique points (although one looks like a dog chewed it)... I've not seen them with round points before.

Very easy to hone and very smooth on the face... typical of great sheffield steel.

    Enjoy.

    I think you're right.

I have noticed a number of "sweeny todd" comments in auctions lately so the movie has obviously been a factor... albiet a temporary one.

Something else I am hoping is that all this new interest will prompt people to get their old razors out of the boxes they're hidden in and get them onto the market...

Almost everyone i speak to about it tells me they have grandpa's old razors tucked away... they need to be in the hands of SRP members... where they will be loved.

I seriously doubt that the movie has made THAT much of an impact on the market. How many new SRP members are there who announced their interest because it was piqued by the movie? I haven't seen any. Plus the movie came out back in December, over a month ago. Publicity has died down majorly. The rise in prices started well before the movie.

actually, i just stopped the other day by a local antique shop i've been visiting for the last 6 months asking for straight razors. their answer has always been - we get them sometimes, display them right on this shelf, but we don't have anything right now - come back again. one time in october the storeowner was there (he used to shave with straight) and he told me "yeah, don't worry we'll get you some".
few days ago when i asked again, the young lady's response was 'everybody is looking for them now, after the sweeny todd movie. i guess it's high stakes shaving or something.' . I told her that I shave that way and it's not really the big deal people seem to make it. But yeah, there is certainly a movie induced spike at the moment.

I hope the razor prices will go down. Often I wonder about the prices right here in our B/S/T. There's been a constant price creep, but sometimes it seems like it's getting out of control. I'm glad I've still been able to get great razors at great prices from friends here, but I wonder how long that'll last.

Don't get me wrong, free market is great, but sometimes I feel like sellers are getting to the point of abusing the lack of knowledge of newbies.

It's not intended as that, but when prices increase for sellers, they have to adjust to aviod taking a loss. I've stopped watching ebay because of the prices... I just can't afford to spend $30 and $40 for razors to hone and sell for $45?
Web sites I used to consider way over priced are now becoming down right cheap in comparison to ebay.
it used to be worth the risk, if the "mint" razor you bought was damaged, you were only out $25. in the last month or two, prices have nearly doubled.

I have to agree with you, I can't compete with the last second prices either. We'll just have to wait it out and see. Fortunately, I was able to purchase a few razors from members on this forum. Now just waiting on them to arrive.
