I won a scuttle!!!

I won the above scuttle on the bay. Hope I'm doing this right in posting it this way. If there are any problems, let me know.
But anyway, the scuttle looked pretty cool and had some nice colors, even if it has a bunch of flowers on it. But hey, I like my Wild Rose and Violetta soaps, so I figure a flowered scuttle can't be all bad.

Nice scuttle, but I think it clashes a little with your avatar!

I snagged a scuttle off the bay last year. I use it everyday. It sure is nice to re-lather with a nice warm lather.

Thanks for the insight. I doubt that Eddie (my avatar) will mind about the flowers. He is British, after all....
So, on a scuttle like this, how exactly is it used? I assume the hot water is placed in the bottom and perhaps the steam goes up through the holes in the cup to keep the lathered brush warm? I would hazard a guess that it wouldn't keep lather extremely hot.

The soap puck goes on top, the brush in the side pocket.

There are a number of options to use a scuttle. The original method was to have a cake of soap in the top and store your brush in the bottom. In Victorian times, when the scuttle had its heyday, they didn't have running hot water. They would heat water, fill the bottom and that was the way they would heat the brush. The holes in the top were to drain the soap holder. Today, I think most guys use it as I do. You make your lather in a bowl and then transfer the lather to the cup and just use the bottom for hot water to keep the lather warm through your shave. Unlike barber shop machine lather, real lather will retain heat for a longer period of time. I will shave one side, then relather my whole face, then shave the other side. I will then relather my whole face then shave ATG on the first side. I basically relather every time I finish a side of my face. I fill the scuttle just up to the bottom of the holes. This way if I need to add water to the lather, I can push the brush down into the holes to get just a little bit of hot water to re-moisten the lather. To me that is the main advantage over scuttles that don't have a holes.
Using a scuttle bumps the luxury factor up to the next level.
