Its probably a one of a kind item or close to it and whoever bought it is probably strictly a razor collector.

That's a cool razor, I'd probably shell out my max of $50 for that one. I have a funny feeling that the $2,000+ bidders know the history behind it

You wouldn't get the opportunity to shell out $50 for that razor.
I have rarely seen one in such good condition with that much metal sculpture on it. That really is a beatiful razor. $50 is an insult.
I have about 5 really nice nudie razors that I paid well over $100 for, none of them have beautiful blades like the one pictured.
However, it is definitely NOT worth over $2,000. $500 is really more reasonable. These two guys got a little out of control...but they obviously have the money.
On the other hand, it's worth whatever someone will pay for it, I guess...

The only insult here is you applying your own values to what another person should consider bidding on an item and then calling it an insult when it does not meet your criteria. You're doing exactly the same as him just on the other end of the scale. He knows what he would bid and applied his own value to the object and you know what you would bid.
Is it more likely that you would get an item like it than him? -Yes.
Is it entirely impossible that he would? -On ebay yes, IRL no.
This post, if such should be the case, is not intended to be harsh in its tone. However as it can be hard to convey your general demeanor and tone of voice on messageboards I'm adding a smiley to the post in order to delineate its nature.

One man's junk, another man's treasure, each insulting the value of the other
Hoglahoo's value calculator: (0.5 x S) + (0.1 x P) = V, where S is the razor's shave quality on a scale from 1 to 100, P is the razor's pretty quality on a scale from 1 to 100, and V is total razor value. If I can't shave with it, I probably won't ever pay more than ten dollars for it. That leaves more great deals for you
Hoglahoo's investment calculator returns an error when applied to straight razors. Poor hoglahoo will have to simply cough up the museum entrance fee if he ever wants to see beautiful razors like that one in person.Find me on SRP's official chat in ##srp on Freenode.
