So, are you saying that you're a Communist?

Actually, I think the quote is from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged." She may have gotten it from Karl Marx, but If so, I'd like to know the actual citation.

I have so much fun watching people squeal about the high prices things of various kinds have fetched on Ebay.

Most entertaining. I do it myself.

Except for black market and under the table deals, Ebay is the closest thing to an actual free market we have.

I'm a professional translator so, in addition to being picky about saying exactly what you mean, I also "fact check" all quotes. Here is a reference from Wikipedia:

    Default Dubl Ducks

Wow did this thread take a left turn somwhere...

It seems that anytime prices come up, especially on Dubl Ducks somebody has to try and tell us that they are not all that great....
Here's the thing, yes the DD brand got a huge bump when Lynn talked about the Wonderedge in his video but seriously do you really think the hype would have continued if these razors didn't provide a great shave????
It seems that anytime a standard of quality is met, there are always people that test their "cool" factor by going against that standard...
Face it DD's have a mystic about them they usually fetch more than other vintage brands why??? they just do. Basically if you want to swim in the Duck pond it normally costs more, but as Spendur was saying in his original post, if you shop smart and are quick you can still find deals on them....
Are there better shaving razors out there??? probably... Is there a more consistent brand of shavers out there??? probably not... DD's in general provide a smooth straight edge to the hone, and unless they were abused over the years are the most consistently easy to hone edges that I have come across...
JMHO here of course and quite a few razors across the hones!!!!

    Default What I mean....

I'll say exactly what I mean and leave it at that.

All I can figure is some folks have more money than they need. That IS a good thing and God bless them.

I personally think the ducks are overpriced. That isn't an insult to anyone who want's to pay $200 + for one and has the bucks to do it. God bless them if they do. I also think Lexus are overpriced. Yet my mother-in-law ownes two. God bless her, she enjoys driving them. Would I turn one down, probably not, but I wouldn't pay Blue Book rates for one either. Is that an insult to Lexus drivers? It shouldn't be. Is having the funds to pay exorbitant prices for a duck an insult? No, it's a compliment to the lengths one will go to have something they enjoy.

Did I take a quote form someone, compare their words to those of a known communist, and smuggly ask if they were one? No, I didn't. And that had nothing to do with the thread. The price of the ducks, that was the subject of the thread as I understood it. Was I insulted by the implication and subsequent question? Yep, sure was.

That being said, I am in no way saying that Dubl Ducks are not all that great, quite the contrary, I'm a fan. If my Goldedge was not a family heirloom, it would be one of my rotation razors. As it is I only break it out for "special occasion" shaves as I want to try and keep it as nice as I can. It was my great-grandfather's I'd like to see it shave my great grandson. Truth is I'd like to have another one to put into my rotation, just not at the prices they currently go for. Like Spendur was getting at, I might get lucky and find one. It could happen. In the interim, I have found other brands that I find much more friendly to my financial situation, they hone and shave just a consistantly as the ducks and are just a pretty (to me anyway).

In conclusion, this red blooded American is telling all you guys to go get the razor you fancy. If you can afford it God bless you!!! If you can't there are alternatives. It just isn't necessary to bully others while you do it. Nuff said.

People feeling offended by other people's observations generally tells more about the person that felt offended than about the observer.

I believe greediness is in all of us, probably for evolutionary reasons. But the day we allowed it to become the engine of our society, we made a big mistake for the future of our species. Sometimes I feel like walking in the street and all people are wearing their underpants on top of their heads, and then they act as if I'm the one that's crazy. (which is possibly true).

People paying megabucks for razors from a company that never even produced razors, but marketed them in an incredibly smart way, that's quite an observation for me. (I'm sure they are fine shavers, as I'm equally sure that my powerful imagination boosts my Bartmann's performance a bit further, when I stand in front of my mirror knowing that I spend well over 100$ for that razor.)

We're all humans and we all need to find a balance between being sensible and more primal driven tendencies such as RAD en HAD.
But the day we allow ourselves being insulted over a futile piece of metal we hold to our skin for facial hair removal, we have drifted a bit off course. I know I have.

BTW, I think we should at least be searching for a better way to organize our society than the mess we made from it so far. If that makes me a communist, I'll wear that title with pride.

    Best regards,

    Bart.

What caught my eye was the comment about people who have more money than they need. Quoting Marx and asking was he a Communist was just a joke. When I told my wife about this exchange she got really worried and begged me to be careful. She said, "All those guys on that web site ... they all have sharp razors and they're high on testosterone!"

I saw this on e-bites and couldn't believe the price it fetched:

All I can figure is some folks have more money than they need.
The seller states, "Dubl Duck straight razor. It has some oxidation on the surface but there is no metal loss anywhere. Also has the original gold wash- hard to find."

When I paste a quote, my font changes and no combination of style or size returns me to the originals. Irritating, Anyway, I just wanted to comment that double ducks with original gold wash are the most common straight razors (besides Timber Crap and Zeepk, etc) that I see on eBay
