He is offering me a refund, but I'd rather just sell it here if anyone wants it. $27 would cover my cost to ship it to anywhere in the USLast edited by hoglahoo; 07-02-2008 at 08:09 PM. Reason: took out unecessary things I said in my state of disappointment, the seller is probably a great guy. also added photo of razor received

Is it not a Mappin Webb then? I'm very confused. It's stamped Mappin Webb on the tang, the etching on the blade looks like it's off a Sheffield blade (I've seen that same writing on a EC Simmons from Sheffield and I think on W&B's), but it says it's German in the description?
What is this thing?

Ah, I forgot to clearly state that I received a full hollow round tipped brand I haven't heard of before - nothing like the razor in the photo. It's heavily pitted and rusted toward the edge, but the scales are quite pretty really, though I wouldn't bid on an auction just for scales...

Oh, now I get it.
That's the thing I hate about shipping costs. If I ran Ebay, I'd make him pay to ship back the wrong razor and have him ship out the correct razor. But of course that would make the sellers bitch and moan because of shipping costs. Not to mention the shipping companies make money off of Ebay and forum sales... But it really is his mistake and you should get the razor you won without having to pay an extra cent.
Or at the very least, you should get a full refund and he'd have to cover return shipping (since I guess it is the right description with the wrong image.)

If you paid with Paypal you can file a dispute, escalate to a claim and possibly get all of your $$ back shipping included. If I understand you to be saying that the seller sent a razor other then the one in the listing I would demand a refund including the cost of return shipping.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

That really works in my limited experience. I recieved a Joseph Rodgers razor with an ugly box while it was advertised with a mint box. I insisted seller pay for return shipping and she did agree to do so. Wait and see if she really does, if not I strike back with a negative feed back which will bite her as she has only small number of feedbacks.

I recognize the seller from his description and shipping costs. I am somewhat surprised, I have always had a good experience winning items from him. Of course I don't blame you for being upset, afterall you did not get what you won and it is likely now in someone else's hands.

Yes, the Mappin in the auction photo had already sold. It was just an easy mistake I'm sure, and I bid on the auction knowing that "Mappin" was not stated anywhere in the description - I put most of my bidding emphasis on the photo (that seems to work better for me, at least in the past)

He does say see pic in the listing, explicitly telling you that that is what you will be receiving by doing so. You should get 100% of your money back, as he misrepresented the sale. In this situation I don't care that it was an honest mistake. If he chided you about expecting a mappin for $25 that would most deffinitly piss me right off and remove any remorse i might feel about getting my own back. If he had put a picture of either a zeepak or a double duck he would have been no less in the wrong.
Its not being a nice guy when everything is going well that makes one a gentleman and an upright business man it how you deal with the situation when there is a problem that defines you.
