Thanked: 131It arrived!
After an agonizing wait, this morning it arrived.
I have decided that if the DD was in good condition then i'd be happy paying what I did for it alone (like JMS said) and so anything else would be a bonus.
I'll give you a rundown as best I can makeout of what I got in the order they came out
1. The Coon. In box. J H Weis Louisville KY.
This is a fair razor and may need cleaning up but still seems quite sharp. It is a little loose and but after a minimal amount of work I would use it. The design is clear on both scales and blade. The scales read 'The Coon' on one side. The shank reads 'THE COON' on one side and on the other says 'J H Weis, Louisville, KY. Made in Germany'. I surmise that the blades were German made and sent to America to be fitted to scales.
2. Larkin Razor. In box.
This razor needs ALOT of work doing to it. There appears to be some rot on the scales and I think I will replace them. The blade itself requires some cleaning and honing. Also, it appears the tang is not made out of metal but is insteadsome other material and is attached to the blade. I figure its a big resto project there.
3. The Henckels.
This is my only disappointment. The Henckels box is exactly that. Its the box. The razor in it is marked 'Electric Cutlery Co., Newark, N.J.'. So no Henckels then. Oh well, the scales look nice enough and with a little cleaning up should come out nice. The blade will require some work as it is chipped in many places. It also needs to be cleaned up.
4. The first of the brushes. This one has bristles an inch long. And a handle about 3 inches long. It is engraved with the words 'Set in Rubber. Strong Set. Trademark USA. Sterilized'. It doesnt look like it. This thing is going route 1 for the bin. It looks gross. There is no way i'd put it near my face!

Thanked: 1315. The Dubl Duck Satinedge
And suddenly my purchase is worthwhile.
The DD is near mint condition. The blade is polished up to a fine standard. Its slack and I have to be careful- it opens and swings shut a little- but its LOVELY. It has a tiny nick in the blade and needs to be honed up but yes this is a beauty.
6. The second brush. Bristles a little longer but still very old indeed. Nothing written on this one but like the first I think it too will be going route 1 for the bin.
7. Mystery razor. No box. Appears to have scales of ivory or bone or something. It is a wedge, and my first one. It has a spike too although the blade has a number of chips. The scales have alot of damage and appear worthless. The blade requires some cleaning and honing but i'd be interested in seeing if I can turn this into anything. Maybe give it some new scales. There is a marking on it but at present I cant make it out because of the dirt.
So there we go. Thats the lot.Last edited by sidneykidney; 07-22-2008 at 02:09 PM.

Thanked: 131But wait.... there's another package....
Wahoo! Bonus razor!
8. Black scales on this razor which appear newer than the razor itself (or at least in good condition). The razor is misaligned and slides against the scales as it closes. The blade also requires some cleaning as there is writing on it but I cant make it out. But hey- bonus razor cant go wrong
So all in all I feel I did do good. Sorry jimbo, no razors for you.
