No matter how much I bid & when I bid it just tells me that I have been outbid, and when I look in bidding history I see automatic bids made just a second before I managed to put my bid...
How to get around this?

That's a nice looking razor; I've never heard of it either. I'm a sucker for yellow scales though.

Don't set your heart on anything until you actually win it. I've been outbid as you say dozens of times but I've also picked up a lot of good deals. Be patient, and wait until the last minute to put in your maximum bid and don't go over it. And of course, prepare to be disappointed when you receive it and it's not quite as nice as the description made it sound.

You've been the victim of "sniping". It's been the bane of ebay since day one. There are alot of sniping proponents, and alot of people dead set against it. I posted my feelings about it in a thread here a couple months ago, and I ended up just abandoning the thread because it became so heated/emotional. Unfortunately, right now sniping is the most effective way to increase your chances of being successful in winning an ebay auction. If there's something on the bay you really want, do a google search for ebay snipe and go nuts.

Just so you know, ebay is currently reviewing and evaluating how auctions end. Right now, the fastest/last snipe wins, which is not really in the spirit of a true auction. Have you ever seen an auctioneer sit there and stare at their watch, say "go", then "stop", and the last person wins without anyone ever having a chance to respond to the final bid? In a traditional auction, the bid/counterbid continues until everyone is done and had a chance to respond to the final bid. Then, and only then, is the auction declared over. In that spirit, ebay is considering extending auction end times until a certain amount of time has passed since the latest bid to give people a chance to counterbid.

Love it or hate it, sniping really is the best way to improve your odds on ebay right now. You can also contact ebay with your opinion on sniping. They're really listening to people's input on this subject right now.

That's incorrect. The highest bidder wins. It doesnt matter when the bid was placed as long as it was placed before the auction end time.

That is technically correct. HOWEVER, NO ONE HAS A CHANCE TO COUNTER THAT BID. And that's my biggest complaint. In a REAL AUCTION, the participants *always* have a chance to see, hear, *and counter* a bid.

The way it is now, ebay is more of a silent auction (where everyone places secret bids via sniping programs) and after the time expiration, the envelopes are opened, and the highest bid wins without anyone being able to counter.

I'll try to put it back on. I've seen this razor before,but the seller didn't know it's name either.He/she called it "two birds pulling a razor".Now we know.

That's right, after the auction end time, no more bids are accepted. In real life auctions, this is very different indeed.

The way I see it (ebay) is this: with the automatic bid, you got shill bidders that'd get your bid right up to the max asap. So we learned to not really enter the real absolute max we were ready to bid so that we could stay below it when the shillers came and bid manually in the last seconds. If ebay had acted against multiple accounts from the same IP address or other known shill bidders, it would not have come to the way it is now that you so perfectly describe here

These days, the only reasonable option on ebay is to enter your absolute maximum amount into your sniper and hope for the best. It's not as comfortable to follow as it used to be, but if you really enter the absolute max you're willing to pay, being outbid should not bother you.

DING! this is the crux of the matter. FloorPizza, think about this. You go to a flea market, see something and think "I'm willing to pay a maximum of X for that". Then you see someone getting ready to buy it for X+. Then you reconsider and think "Wait! I'm now willing to pay X++". Why? how did someone else's valuation of the item change yours? How did the value of the item itself change?

I could continue this debate for pages, but I'll stick to my above statement.

As it was pointed out the only way to win an item on ebay is to place the highest bid before the deadline. As to various strategies of how to make this happen they should probably discussed in a separate thread. Seems to me in this case the problem is the price, not the timing.

I think it's an interesting razor, mostly because it's likely an attempt to capitalize on the more famous brand. I am not bidding on it as I'm not interested in owning it. If anybody here wins it I'd be curious to read their impression with it.
