We have an awesome resource here, the wiki. About your initial question, let me direct you to an entry of the wiki on razors to avoid:

Brands of Straight Razors to avoid - Straight Razor Place Wiki

I think that you have received great advice already but I with this introduction of the wiki, I hope to make you more independent. Also, we have a pretty large community here and you would soon discover that a lot of straight shaving related stuff in dependent on personal preference. This means that sometimes you ask a question and could receive up to 20.000 answers, depending on the question. There is not a unique way to achieve results. By looking into some references, this decision making "problem" would be greatly reduced. I am very grateful to this forum for all the advice I have received since I joined. Before that, I had only 1 razor, a Filarmonica 13, which I bought ages ago and paid close to what a lot of these Pakistani razors sell for. Obviously, when the time for buying a second razor came, naturally I looked into buying one of these razors... SRP saved me from wasting my money... ;-)

    Al raz.
