Craftsman ERN
I bought this on Ebay because I had seen one one time and thought it was beautiful. Did I pay about the right price? The pics are not great, but it still looks very, very good. I kind of trusted the description as well,
"The box and straight razor are in excellent condition, and they look like they have rarely, or never, been used."
Anyway, give me your thoughts! You won't hurt my feelings. -->Tod

Congratulations! I'd say you did very well.
Craftsman razors in nice condition often go well over $100 because of the novelty and sentimentality of the Craftsman/Sears Roebuck association.
In the condition it's in, with the goldwash intact, the inlay, and the box, I think you did REALLY well. Bet it's a killer shaver, too!

Thanked: 156Nice grab. Lowered my bid at the last minute. I have enough ERNs to satisfy my RAD for now.

Cool! I'm looking forward to getting it. Glad to see that I didn't have to compete against the veterans!
I'll post some better pics once I have it.
Thanks for the input. -->Tod

Thanked: 156Thats not quite true, I dropped the bid from 80 to 70. Didn't like all that gold. :P Actually my pocket book is a little light atm, so I dropped most of my snipes to "rock bottom, I'll never get it, but just in case" levels. Except for that Puma lot... and I still didn't win....
Oh well, credit card company is happy...

Can anyone tell me anything about these razors? Who was ERN, about when was this made, were all Craftsman razors made by ERN, or were there different manufacturers, etc.? Any information would be nice, or if you can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Tod

Ern was one of the many companies making cutlery in Solingen. Sears used Koeller for the Craftsman 'Sta Sharp series and they are also a fine razor and sought after by collectors and shavers alike. There was at least one other maker who Sears used and I think it was Empire ? I have seen a couple on ebay but didn't end up the high bidder.
I have a Craftsman Ern with a worked spine and a faux tortoise scales. I haven't gotten around to honing it up yet but I am sure it will be a hum dinger. I haven't gotten a bum Craftsman yet and I have a number of the Sta Sharps.
I had your Ern in my watched items but I have other fish to fry and although the spirit was willing the wallet was weak. You got a nice razor and a good price IMO.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

It's nice, & should be a great shaver, but is that rust on the jimps? It may be a trick of the light & i hope it is, but if it is rust, you may lose a lot of the gold wash.
