One of the pics showed the label on the side of the box. 8"x2"x1"

For those of you lusting after a Dalmore Yellow, I mentioned specifically in the auction that I don't feel the Dalmore Yellow is suitable for razors. It's a fine grit sandstone and it's soft. Water soaks into the Dalmore Yellow like a sponge because of its porosity. Since relatively speaking, the Dalmore Yellow particles are what I'd consider to be loosely bound, it's a gritty stone. It'd be fine if it was releasing slurry, but instead it easily releases sandy grit. It doesn't feel good using it to hone razors.

OTOH, if one is looking to own all the Scottish hones, the by all means the Dalmore Yellow is one in the group and has value for that reason.

Ha, I've already dropped off the box at the post office this morning, Mac. Enjoy this stone combo.

I must say that is the most beautiful Dalmore Blue I have ever seen!

I have the same combo in the same box except mine is the 6X2X1 version....but the blue side is almost entirely uniform in color.

BTW, I completely agree with your assessment of the Dalmore Yellow, it seems to compare well with an 800 to 1000 grit hone and works well for a stronger edge like a wedge razor, but I wouldn't let it near any full hollow ground razors.

Congrats McWolf! Good thing I was in my car at the time of this ultrashort auction, or it might have been even shorter... DB are beautiful. The other day I requested a larger copy of one of the pictures of the SE meet just because of the gorgeous DB in it. I hope Sicboater (pic) and Coully (hone) won't mind this repost:

So the secret of the stack of red boxes reveiled!!!!
I thought they were Randy's but always missed to ask.

    Beautiful hones!
Much brighter in color than my DB though.
