It can happen. Some years ago, when I was toying with the idea of straights but long before I discovered SRP, I was the sole bidder on a nice Wade & Butcher. Same thing happened more recently with what has become one of my favorite pipes. Some days you eat the bear ... and you don't have to worry about the other half of the saying today.
