weird auction
Bresduck & PearlDuck DBL Duck, Antique Straight Razors - eBay (item 120491455272 end time Nov-17-09 12:37:56 PST)
The seller doesn't quite know how ebay works and I wish I could find out more what happens next. I suspect a bit of frustration for the buyer when he gets one razor only, then has to send it back to get a refund... None of them look even close to 'new' either.

He says the auction is for one or all.... and some gibberish about getting all "If the price is right".... so the intent here was "Bid high, and if you make me happy I'll give them all to you"...driving up the auction value...
And how do you know which razor you're bidding on? This auction is an unethical manipulation of the seller's rights so as to allow them to make this the most profitable situation for them, and most detrimental to the buyer. No good.

It's a strange one, although at least he has now said the minimum price for all four razors is $160. I wouldn't take part in that auction in any case, too much could go wrong.

I was the first guy to send a question and I told him that unless he listed them individually he would have to sell them all for whatever the final bid was. You can read his answer at the bottom of the listing.
So he answered another query with the statement that the 'starting price' for all of them was $160 and that he had seen them go for $250 individually. I was tempted to send a snipe of $170 in at the end and take my chances but took a closer look.
I figured it wasn't worth the potential hassle. New goldedges generally don't have the gold wash rubbed off and although I know paypal would have issued a refund the seller was too clueless for me to risk the hassle.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

right, he does say it's for one razor (which one? - any pick), or all of them (if you pay 4x more?, or if the seller feels they've got enough money). He claims there are 'new' razors in there and that's simply not true, a close look at the pictures is enough.
He does have 0 feedback, but he's had the account for over two years, definitely another oddity.
That's why I wish I can find out what happens next, but while interesting I didn't want it enough to bid and get involved in such a mess.
The $160 starting bid was in his mind, he just multiplied his opening bid of $40 by the number of razors (4), which isn't how ebay auctions work, unless he explicitly sets it up this way.Last edited by gugi; 11-18-2009 at 12:50 AM.

Did the auction just end early? Curious ...

Thanked: 96Seller is either mentally handicapped or a kid. No adult in this day and age can't understand how an auction works. I sent him a message telling him that auction was going to be for all four razors as listed and if he DIDN'T send all four to the winner, they'll issue a complaint and his account will be promptly banned. He may also face mail fraud charges depending on payment method, etc.
I'd stay away. 99% chance he sends winner the most beat up razor, winner complains, spends months dealing with refund, losing at least $25 (eBay's protection "fee") in the process, seller gets banned.
I'd rather avoid the whole mess.
I kinda suspect he ended it early after reading my message, but obviously being None too bright, neglected to cancel the bids first. Boy he's in for some fun sorting that crap out.

I noticed this one too.
I found the auction to be quite misleading.
That is my cue to just leave it alone.
