    Default Watchers

If you've sold items on ebay you know that sellers can see how many people are watching their item. It doesn't tell you who they are, just how many. Last night I listed two vintage bicycles. I'm thinning the herd and intend to get down to four like a normal person.

So I listed the two at around 8PM and at present I have 24 watchers on one and 12 watchers on the other. Once I had 80 watchers on an old road racing bike listed with a 2k opening bid.

I got no bids until the last few seconds and then one bid and the item sold. So having watchers is cool but it certainly doesn't mean a successful outcome for the seller. Personally I will actually bid on a small percentage of what I have in the items I'm watching. My watched items used to average 30 but now it is more like 10. End of ramble.

Yea, sometimes I just watch because I've got a similar item and want to know it's value.

The most watches I have ever had on a razor auction was about 85, on a Celebrated W&B For Barbers use, which I got $291 for.

Watchers doesn't always mean higher end bids...but, it certainly don't hurt

I watch items I'm interested in buying, but I also watch items I want to educate myself on concerning the value. You can get a ballpark kind of idea as to value if you keep seeing things multiple times.(barring crazy bidding wars,of course)

I do that to with some things. You can also do an item search and then over in the left hand column scroll down page and click on 'completed items'. More often than not when I'm watching an item I am considering a bid. Usually by the time it is close to ending I have talked myself out of it.

I watch things too just like most of us. I agree though, Jimmy, for the times I sell things on Ebay I can't help but think that watchers are just that, watchers and not buyers. I've also found (and I'm guilty of it as well when I've been a potential buyer) that those who ask questions about an item during an auction rarely end up being the winning bidder. Just my experience.
