Default Does this look like a coticule to you?

    Hey all,

So I came across this stone auction on ebay. It's apparently a coticule, but I really don't think it looks anything like one....Perhaps it is just in need of a REALLY good cleaning? What do you think?

To be honest, it looks more like an Arkansas stone to me. See how the stone reflects light in the chipped areas. I have a coticule that was mined at least 60+ years ago, it is oxidized and very hard on surface but still not as glass looking as that one.

It doesn't look like it to me. If I were interested I would inquire to the seller how he knows it is a Belgian coticule.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

I was thinking Arkansas too, but based purely on pictures I've seen of them. I know some coticules are creamy in colour, but the texture looks totally off, glassy like you said....

I would, but I really don't have a need for another coticule.

Not a coticule. Looks like some variety of Arkansas to me too. Maybe the seller just went by the incorrect sticker when they purchased it.

I sent the seller a question last night asking how they know it is a coticule.... told them I had seen many and it didn't look like it to me .... no answer yet. If they get back to me I will post the answer.

I saw this auction as well.

Can't say I've seen a coticule that looks like that stone. I could be wrong, but I thought coticules were not opaque like that. This opacity is a trait of the Arkansas stone.

Personally, I think the seller is going by the old label affixed to the stone.

I found it to be too small in size for my liking.

If Sham says it's Arkansas, I bet he's right.
It certainly does look not like a Coticule.
