    Default Lifetime reaper auction question?

How much did the Bresnick lifetime reaper go for, I missed the ending bid. Did anyone see what it sold for at end?

I missed it completely and couldn't find it in a search of completed items on USA ebay. Anyone have an item #. I'm curious to see the thing.

Think it was this one,Jimmy.Looked awfully yellow to me but maybe it's the quality of the photo. And the scales are warped badly.

I know there is a certain mystic about the Double Ducks right now, but with a blade that would need full restoration and scales that are so badly warped, I couldn't imagine paying that much for a straight razor.

Having said that, I like the details of the scales. I like razors with bolsters and this one had a neat one on the tip opposite the razor pin.

But $430?!?! CRAZY! For that money, you could have just about two of anything else, or even a custom Robert Williams. That is insane for a razor in such bad shape.

Can you even "unwarp" scales like that? Because without the scales, those "Lifetime" razors aren't the same.

With scales warped in that manner the blade will often still seat centered and won't hit. Not ideal but acceptable for use. I have one of the coveted Lifetime Reapers as well as a Wonderedge, Goldedge, Satinedge and other ducks. They are over rated.

They are good razors, don't get me wrong, but they are not 'all of that'. They have no jimps and their relatively thin tangs are not comfortable to grip confidently IME. The scales are notoriously cheesy even if they are attractive. Warping is common.

They have a reputation for being great shavers that is well deserved IME but the same can be said for many other lesser known Solingens made in the same era. So the dubl duck mystique has driven the price way beyond the value of the item IMO. As a collectible they may be worth it but as a shaver wait for a bargain. A case in point, I got my Reaper for $100.00 and it is in better condition than the one in the auction.

What I find is absurd is while that is a collectors item that I know many of us are after it only sold for $430. Yes, Only. I remember Wonderedges selling in the $400 range, and they are far more common, with NOS wonderedges, also "common" going for $1000!

How many of those were made? In that condition I'd have to expect it's a collector/nonshaver buying it just because it's very rare?
