Default What determines the value on Dubl Ducks?

Is the majority of the value of a Dubl Duck determined by it's scales?

Example is the Dubl duck for sale in the classifieds on SRP?

    Versus

DUBL DUCK STRAIGHT RAZOR PEARL DUCK EXC ORIG COND - eBay (item 170430440002 end time Jan-16-10 19:35:51 PST)

I'm just trying to figure out whats makes certain SR cost more then others.

There are alot of people who want Dubl Duck razors , creating a high level of demand for them . If you have 10+ people in a bidding war over one razor the price will climb to whatever (no matter how insane you may think it is) level the person is willing to pay . There is no "blue book" or "red book" price guide for razors . The razor you buy this week for $500 , may only get you $50 next week . Or it could go the other way . It depends on what's hot , and what's not . I have a Dubl Duck Goldedge , which has a 5/8 round point with a good deal of hone-wear , but the scales are in excellent condition , and also have the original box that is in very good condition . I paid $12 for it at a flea market 22 years ago . (in case anyone is wondering , it is not for sale)
P.S. It's not only the scales , the condition of the blade is equally important in determining the value of any razor , at least for me .

Dave summed it up pretty well. Early 2009 saw W&B 7/8 or 8/8 going for 200-300, and the "For Barber's Use" or "For Barbers Only" fetching from 200-500 USD. Now they go for around $100 on the bay.

Flavor of the month, is all.

yup... try getting a filly on the bay right now and you better have 300... when the butchers were blowing up the filly's were lots cheaper.

I will say that certain razors always seem to have a premium though like ducks, friodurs etc.

See, I asked about FOTM phenomenon and got shot down; I was told that WB and DD have always demanded a pretty penny. I just *knew* that if I stuck around long enough I'd see it.

My bet is that Heljes will be next.

No one who just bought a $500 razor wants to admit it's just the FOTM. Pride matters to a man who just got caught with his trousers down, so to speak.

But I do notice the dubl ducks with the plain scales aren't that expensive.
