it is admirable i agree and i would hope the buyers are collectors that actually know what they are buying, i just cant see a shaver paying that much money for a razor

Well, at the end of the day, it's worth what people will pay for it.

I've done a bit of antique book selling. I sell what people will buy.

I have sold lots of books which, for the content of their pages, are complete trash. I wouldn't use them as a drink coaster, let alone dedicate several hours of my life to *reading* such drivel.

But people will pay 50, 100, 200, 300+ bucks for books in not-so-great condition, of an appalling low quality standard, if it is currently fashionable in the book collecting world to do so.

I would never pay that much for a razor, either. But at least it's a quality product delivered in excellent shape and ready to be used.

That's a big step up from a lot of collectables that people will pay big bucks for.

Why do people pay insane amounts of money for things? I dunno. Why do most people here have many razors when you can get away with one or two? Why do people by Ferraris when they're just going to be driving them on inner city streets? Why does my mother have a huge collection of creepy-looking porcelain dolls? Why do I have 40 billion different types of writing pads?

We just do. Humans, like most other creatures, hoard things. It's a curious lower brain survival thing which has stuck with us in the modern age. No one *needs* a razor that costs several hundred dollars. But we'd like to have it. It's pretty and shiny and... damn, I want one.

    We're weird creatures.

i agree but the many razors thing is more of a security thing i think in case something happens to one of em you cant just run out to your local drug store and pic one up for 2-3 bucks anymore even if it is close to 50-60 bucks now.

Ha ha, tell that to the guys here who have dozens, or even hundreds of razors.

The above mentioned auctions were for carbons steel Henckels razors if I am not mistaken. They are much rarer than the Henckels Friodurs that can be had for much less. You don't see mint carbon steel Henckels that often.

I own three razors. Two came from Quinton. They were perfect. They have shaved wonderfully right out of the box. He is on par with a fellow that sells perfectly restored, high end pipes on ebay. That fellow fetches large sums for his pipes because of his reputation. The same is happening for Quinton. His razors are typically perfect, and if they aren't he tells you what is wrong with them in the description. The only problem that I have with him is that he is so busy restoring his razors. He can't restore an old Grah that I found on the bay.

I've admired this guy's work for years. His stuff is way out of my bottom-feeding price range, but his stuff is just wonderful to look at.
