I don't think that's how it works. I've done a quick comparison of W&B, DD, and Filarmonica crazes. Here's how it goes:

  1. Brand is available in the market at a low price for items in good condition.
  2. Brand gets discovered by experienced member, and passed on as a tip to his peer group.
  3. An expert review gets written. Case in point, Max's review here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...bas-duras.html. Key issue: "It will get more expensive, and it will hold its value well". Add a professional photo, and you are in business.
  4. Consumer reviews get written by people with more money than experience. Understandably, they feel a need for self justification (paying 2 or 3 times as much money for a convenience item as necessary isn't something most people do easily). Therefore, they declare this razor the holy grail of straight shaving, and the only safe way to get one of the 100% BBS shaves after one week of shaving.
  5. Beginners, who are confused by the wide range of choices and opinions, anyway, go with what the most vocal people recommend.
  6. Somewhere along the way, the razor stops being a functional item and gets turned into a fetish. One clear indication is that it is deprived of its name. Enter Filly, or Filli. Add wrong plural (Filli's, or Fillys). Add buzzwords from other forums with even more mentally unstable (keeping in mind that the D in RAD represents a mental disorder) and inexperienced users. Enter "totally best ever", "hands down", "little sucker" and other such meaningless drivel.
  7. A new razor star is born. Rejoice!

As I said: Please buy more Pumi's!!!

Thank you.

Robin

PS In case you haven't noticed, neither W&B nor DD razors have deteriorated in terms of performance over the last three years. Funnily enough, though, their prices have. Could it be that people have finally realised that there is a bloody truckload of these still available? And probably thousands of so called Filly's, too? Ah, well, whatever.
