Looks like it might be a nice translucent Arkansas. A pink vein was visible in your photos. Any slurry when you lapped it? Was it REALLY hard to lap?

The lapped slurry, was a baby p**p yellow...pardon la France'. Similar in color to the stone, but a deaper yellow over all. The fourth photo, is the bark-like skin, on the backside of the hone.

Waiting with hope that it is either a fine grit Japanese natural or a Coticule from the days of the Romans and not anything less than that.

    Any ideas?

Is it possible that the center stone is a Japanese natural????? If so it looks to be a very coarse grit.
It's the cute little round stone, circles all the way, doncha know.

I honed with the stone last night, as well as shaved off the edge. It is certainly produced a fine edge. I'm quite happy with how it finishes.
I'm still thinking its a JapNat...though what kind, im not sure i will ever know. Considering, the cheap lot that it was sold in, its unlikely it was one of the more expensive JapNats, imo....but who knows.

    Many thanks all,

    Mac
