    Default Friodur or not?

I am the owner and have the listing on ebay. I never questioned the authenticity of the razor. All I know is that the scales say Friodur and the pins are original so there has been no substitution. I do have another Friodur (8/8) and I went to my case to check it out and it does say Friodur on the tang. So I really don't know if a Friodur has to say it on the blade to be an authentic Friodur. I welcome any and all help with this one.

    Hi Altshaver
No problem...I need to remember where I saw them. I recently got an "empty" scale with the twin and Friodur inlay on it from John (Mike) Harsha to a reply to one of WTB posts. I wanted it for a rescale I plan to have Max do for me using the inlays and a black micarta scale (using the 7/8 Friodur I will buy from John Crowley). Once done, I think it'll be a work of art .

I do remember seeing others...I just don't remember where. once my memory gets jogging and remember, I'll PM you a few links. I guess I will have to use my brain cells now.

As far as the larger Friodurs go, I think the Crowley ones might be your best bet. As far as I know, these larger Friodurs come from old Factory blanks. The ones that Crowley sells I believe are ground by Wacker. Who knows who does the grinds on the ones sold on eBay? From what I have read, the larger Friodurs can be a crap-shoot, which is why I think the Crowley ones are a better bet.

I definitely recommend you do some research before buying.

I can easily see how an unscrupulous individual might try to pass something off without doing the homework.

Bravo for coming here and manning up. IMO it shows a great deal of integrity.

Has anyone ever seen a Friodur with that generic gold "Solingen" etch on the blade? For what it's worth, I have not.

The goldwash is another oddity about this razor. The only Friodur that I have seen that had goldwash was Henckels' 250th anniversary Friodur model. Actually, one of the things that I like about Henckels razors is that they usually go easy on the goldwash.

That said, I have no doubts that this is a Henckels branded razor. I am not sure that it is a Friodur. If it is, it is an oddity.

If I didn't know another member was bidding on it, I would be tempted to bid on it so that I could use the scales on my Friodur, and rescale and use the blade. I bet it is a great shaver, and it looks like it is in good shape as well.

It is very cool that the seller has come out to get some information and opinions on this razor - very classy.

    To Zomax:

How did you acquire this razor? Thanks for posting.

I would like to correct myself on the Henckels goldwash comment. I have seen another Henckels Friodur with goldwash. Here is a link:

Here is a link to some pictures of the Henckels 250th anniversary razor:

    @Glen

Thanks for the link Glen. I remembered reading that review, but I didn't notice the tang stamp the last time I read that review. Is there a way to tell by eye if the razor is made from High Carbon Steel or 440C Stainless Steel? I very much respect your opinions on razors and shaving in general, but I have to ask - are you absolutely sure your razor is a Friodur? Also, does your razor have the Zwillingswerk stamp on the other side of the tang? I noticed that Zomax's razor did not. If your razor and his razor both don't have the stamp on the back, then I would be feeling more confident about the razor. Thanks in advance!

    Couple of things

In my professional opinion from being very, very, very, good at changing pins and making them look factory, I would say the pins on mine have never been touched...

Mine has no stamp at all on the back

Two things lead me to think it is SS steel
My experience on the hones, and
There is not one speck nor mark not even a water stain on the razor not even in the tang area, nor was there when I got it...

    Am I 100 % sure ???? NOPE

But think about most of the razors in your collection how many of those are you 100% positive about hehehehe

So many mysteries out there in Razorland..
