I had one that I honed up, and it shaved Ok. It was a pretty cheap one that I nabbed from school, so the edge didnt hold up for long, and that also probably explains the average shave.
Other guys here have honed and shaved with these and reported a good shave, so it was probably the fact that mine was an unbranded cheapie one that made me not like it so much.

I know JimmyHAD has honed up a Puma microtomb, and I've done a Droscher microtomb. It certainly can be used to shave with. My advice would be that you send it out to someone, or else set it aside for after you've learned to hone, because microtombs are a fun challenge if you're up for it.

Here are standard profiles of microtome knives.

thanks for all the advice guys its appreciated , the blade is defeintly a planar concave and its a microtome for sure I found another identical my by Joseph Rodgers on a google search , I have decided it aint worth the effort to return it ...I will hone it an see how it shaves will letya all know the out come ....Baz
