Joseph Rodgers ..confused dissapointed !!! Advice
Hi , I just recieved this razor off ebay , pretty dissapointed
the blade has a dogleg in it , the razor has 2 different grinds
on opposing sides I have included some pics as the razor ,
it was listed in excellent condition yet only one side of the
razor was shown on the ebay listing , I asked the seller if the
unpictured side was in same condition ect his reply was yes all good ..surely the razor wasnt made this way ? you can cleary
see 2 different grinds when looking down the blade from the toe
..not a slide cutter ??? any advice appreciated
I just aint happy with it or the seller

This is called a microtome. It's not a straight razor. It's used by labs and hospitals to slice off thin tissue samples. It is possible to shave with it as a couple members have done, but if you are not happy, you should get your money back.

It looks to me like it was made that way, and the blade does seem to be in good condition on both sides

thanks guy's I'd be lost without ya's ...a microtome , hmmm I dont like the idea a shaving with somethin thats possibly been doin biopsies lol rrrrr..... yes its in very good condition scales are like new blade is good ....I imformed the seller and have been offered a refund but dont wether its worth sendin back only cost me $20 and &6 postage so another $6 to return it for a refund of total of $ 14 might be good to keep as a corn razor to trim the hard callous's I get on my feet ...I am interested to know is it to be honed in a different manner as its shaped more like a chisel would I only hone the concave side ?? advice appreciated

Sell it on the classifieds. Someone will pay good money for it...you might even make a small profit.

If it is disinfected and cleaned, it doesn't really matter what it was used for originally. A good hundred or so years ago, most people had some sort of skin condition of the other, and many of the razors you find on the bay have been stored in unclean conditions.
It's nothing that a good cleaning won't take care of.

This is a microtome - I made the mistake of purchasing one of these once, by Rodgers also, however the seller contacted me apologising for misaccurately describing it as a razor, when in fact it was a microtome and informed me that I was not obligated to buy it, which I did not!
Just a thought - why not send it out to a razorsmith and have it reground? Would make a great hollow grind. I know these take edges as guys here have shaved successfully with them.

Or considering that it can actually be honed like a razor, you could use it as is
Japanese razors are also asymmetrical after all.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.
