Thanked: 1371As much as I'd like to claim credit for the idea, it is in the SRP FAQ: section 5.1.2.1

Thanked: 94I also use French and German in my searches
- Raisor
- Rasiermesser
and mis-spellings of the same.
- Rasor
- rasior
- raisermesser
Other avenues also include "Cut Throat razor" and "open razor" which are synonyms for a straight razor.

I usually search for straight razor, (now I add "-zeepk, -kriegar" thx HNSB!) and sort by "time ending soonest." Then I just go through until I've reached razor that are ending in 2-3 days.

Thanked: 275I think I took this from one of the Wiki's:
straight razor -zeepk -kamisori -masterusa -master -knives -knife -kriegar -Shavette -100 -rz -mu -gift -giftset -pocket -CHANGEABLE -DISPOSABLE -New -DURHAM -DUPLEX7
It gives pretty good results.

Here are a few of my favorite searches, first two are for multiple razor auctions. The 2nd one usually picks up any the first one doesnt, without including the ones from the first one
straight "razors" -new -PCS -SELECTIVE -"With razor strop"
straight razor lot -"razors" -new -PCS -SELECTIVE -"With razor strop"
vintage sharpening -steel

I have found it profitable to search by eBay's straight razor category. Sometimes people don't include 'straight razor' in the title, or use another term, I've discovered. If you search by typing 'straight razor', rather than using the category straight razor you will miss some nice blades. There will be some junk returned when you do this, but if you look daily there is not all that much. I shouldn't give that up, but I'm mostly through with eBay.
Also place names, solingen, etc., and maker names may unearth a few sleepers.

I have been looking for a few weeks for a razor that was stamped with Detroit. I have a saved search that emails me. It hasn't returned much lately. Lasat night the wife turned off my Cafe Racer TV and turned on some uselees junk so I fired up the laptop and hit the Bay to see what was up. I've been trying to be a good boy and not buy anything on impulse, just want to round out a 7 day set of Ducks, and that Detroit razor.
Lo and behold there was a razor with a description something like " Look, nice razor". There on the tang was stamped Detroit, and the auction was ending in 1 hour, and it was under $10. Snagged it for not a whole lot more than that, more than I usually pay, but I really wanted the Detroit and they have been hard to find.
All this to say that sometimes the specific searches turn up less than what is out there. The sellers don't always help us find what we are looking for.
