Thread: NOS Fillys

Are these things going up in price or what!!! The last time i was checking out an nos,they were around 350.00 and i just saw one sold at 726.00 WTF. I will never get one now.

Well, it is a good thing that there are a lot of razor brands of the same or better quality that are not in such high demand.

I agree! They are very good shavers, but I think a DD or Wacker is easily as good, if not better.

Heck, a DOVO Bismarck is a great shaver as well and definitely rivals a Filarmonica.

And pretty much every razor out there has better scales on it than the Fillis do.

These prices arent a reflection on the quality of the razor, they're a result of hype and massive goodwill.

Well I must have got lucky. Last week I picked up a NOS 8/8 filly on ebay for $208.

There are Filly bargains to be had. I picked up a Doble Temple 14 last night for $136. It's not NOS but it looks in pretty good condition. I've got a Doble Temple 13 but I wanted to try on of their big blades.

Plenty of cheaper razors that are as good if not better. My favorite factory straight are the vintage Le Grelots. I reckon these shave better than a Filly and can be found for as little as $30-$50 if you look around.

Hart Steel also make a very nice razor that I reckon is better than a Filly and alot cheaper as well.

There's a lot of crap razors out there, a lot of good razors, but in the end it's very personal and depends on what type/grind/honing finishing/whatever you prefer. So I wouldn't call a Filarmonica better or worse than many other razor brands.

That being said, couldn't it be they are similar in feel to the so-called Solingen 14s ? You can get those cheaper.

I shaved with a DD Wonderedge the other day, then the next with a NOS Fily 14 Barbas Duras. They are very, very similar shavers, However; both are pretty pricey. They are not in production anymore, just like Goldedges. Maybe some of it is in our minds, but those, Fily's, cheap scales and all, are fantastic shavers out of the box, and that is a rare thing. I got mine before the Fily Frenzy, They're awesome, and definiltey keeper's, like my DD's.

Puma, Dubl Duck (Goldedge and Wonderedge) and Fily's are among my favorite vintage shavers. They hold their value, especially if in mint conditon for a reason. They look great, They shave great, and they don't make them anymore...Keep your eyes open, every once in a while, you find a bargain. I just picked up a mint Dubl Duck Goldedge for 125.00, That's a bargain....

Another great shaver is the Livi Nos, sometimes available at SRD. They go for about 300.00 or so, and are worth every penny.

I've been DYING to get my hands on a LIVI NOS. I missed out by a very short amount of time twice in one week. I never see them up on SRD.
