Thanked: 7Japanese straights
Hello,
I think this question has been posted here, but the links to the site were too old to reveal anything. So here goes again: are this guy's prices way over the line/ I'm new to Japanese straights, but I'd go for this or this
I've chosen them mainly based on the width of the blade. Due to my facial features, kind of "cornered", I'm looking especially for the equivalent of a 4/8 or even 3/8.
There have been talks here about a Ebayer who sells way overpriced Japanese Tousukes, but like I mentioned, the links to the guy were way too old for Ebay to keep the record. It's either this or a Feather.

That seems very expensive for a Tosuke, especially in that condition, but I don't know about the other one. If you're not too sure yourself, I'd suggest just buying from a reputable vendor (even if that was to up the price or limit the selection a bit) just to eliminate as many variables as possible.

Thanked: 7If you could direct me towards a reputable vendor I'd be grateful. The reputation was my issue, too, and the price seemed a little bit off.
Thank you

Dear Theseus this razors costs 500$ !
It is more than double the price Whiskeypete was willing to spend in the two razors he chose.
PS: By the way, Theseus was the founder of my city

Never said it was cheap, just reputable.

Thanked: 7Well, I guess reputation comes at a price. In truth, the Ebay ones are used, so it's normal to be a under the street price. I came across them while searching for a Feather non-folding. And I guess that's what I'll be going after. I can't take the risk with the Ebayer and I simply cannot afford a brand new Iwasaki. Perhaps some other time, though.
Thank you all for your time.
Kind regards,

Thanked: 2027IF,his vintage Tamahaganis are the real deal his prices are inline,IMO.
As far as Tosukes,is a world of differance between those made today and the older blades made by,signed and registerd by the master himself.
A new in box, modern made Tosuke went off at over 400 a few days back, thats insane.

I'd stay clear of this or this. One looks like it has been honed to death and has bad and weird wear. The other looks more like a trim razor to me.
